HOMELESS PROGRAMS
The City serves primarily as a funder of homeless programs operated by non-profit agencies. This includes funds through the Emergency Shelter Grant Program, Shelter Plus Care, Community Development Block Grant, and others. The Department also supports the Tucson Planning Council for the Homeless, and acts as a partner in many homeless programs. The BRIDGES Program is an example of the kind of community partnerships that have been developed to address homelessness.
BRIDGES
Bridges is a collaborative effort that provides direct links between housing opportunities, supportive services and employment programs for the homeless. The City of Tucson maintains 63 units of transitional housing utilized by 6 non-profit partners who specialize in delivering a wide variety of supportive services including employment services to homeless individuals and families with children. The goal of the program is to provide household stabilization and increased financial security for ultimate transition to independent, permanent housing.
