Self-Sufficiency Program

Family Self-Sufficiency Program

The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program is a work-incentive program that helps Section 8 participants and Public Housing residents become more economically independent. Clients who choose to participate meet with an FSS Case Manager to develop a 5-year plan. The plan outlines interim goals and milestones with a final goal of Self-Sufficiency. Self-Sufficiency is attained by new employment or promotional opportunities that increase wages. Each FSS client receives free one-on-one career planning assistance and ongoing job training and employment referrals.

As the FSS client begins earning more income from work, a portion of their rent increase is matched in an escrow savings account. The savings account is then given to the client, tax-free when he or she graduates from the program. Only current Housing Choice Voucher Participants and Public Housing residents may apply for this program. If you would like an application please contact us at (520) 791-4742, and ask to speak with someone from the FSS staff.
