Residential Garbage & Recycling Services

To order service or containers or to report any problem, call Customer Service at 791-3171 or email eshelp@tucsonaz.gov.

Environmental Services (ES) provides single-family households and multi-family housing (up to 24 units) with automated garbage and recycling service once each week, both collected on the same day. Call 791-3171 for your schedule and to request an information packet. ES residential customers are charged a monthly $14 fee for garbage and recycling collection which is part of their Utility Services bill, which also includes Tucson Water and Pima County Sewer charges.

Curbside service: Most residents have a 90-gallon garbage container collected at the curb. Please remember:

  • Collection times will vary. To ensure service, set out your container by 6 a.m. on collection day.
  • Set container within three feet of the curb with the lid opening toward the street.
  • Place container three feet away from parked cars, mailboxes and other obstacles. Allow 15 feet clearance from tree branches, utility wires, etc. above the container.
  • Do not leave container at the curb on non-service days. Containers must be pulled back onto private property on non-service days.

Alley service: In some areas, up to three households share 300-gallon containers in alleys.
Please:

  • Do not move or relocate the container.
  • Do not place bulky items, such as furniture, building materials, dirt or rocks, in or next to the containers.
  • Try to use only your share of space in the container.

Trash Tips & Info

  • For safety, keep children away from refuse containers and collection trucks.
  • Do not overfill containers. Overfilled containers create litter and may not be serviceable.
  • Bag and tie wet garbage, i.e., food scraps and pet droppings, to prevent odors and flies.
  • The City will only service containers provided by the City. Do not set out garbage in other cans, boxes or receptacles.
  • The City, at no cost, will perform container maintenance resulting from normal wear and tear. Keep your curbside containers clean by rinsing out with soap and water.
  • Containers are assigned to the property address; do not remove containers from the property if you move.
  • Do not use garbage containers for dirt, concrete, building materials, hazardous or toxic waste, unwrapped animal waste, large items such as furniture, water heaters, etc.
  • Never place hot ashes, cinders, coals or other burning material in garbage containers.
  • Only place yard waste in the container that fits with the lid closed (no tree limbs or branches).
  • Do not place anything on the closed container lid as that will interfere with servicing.

Residents who repeatedly violate the above rules and regulations may incur a service fee on their utility service bill or be subject to court imposed fees.
