| Groundwater Remediation Silverbell Jail Annex Landfill Silverbell Project Newsletter update August 2005 (pdf) The Silverbell Jail Annex is a closed municipal landfill operated by the City of Tucson from 1966-1977. The site is divided into two disposal cells (Silverbell Jail Annex Landfill Site Map) . The south cell is located just south of the former Tucson Police Academy and the north cell is located beneath the City of Tucson's Silverbell Golf Course. Groundwater contamination was first noted under the landfill in 1985. Environmental Services Engineering & Technical Support s objectives at this site are:
The City is continuing to evaluate the best method to clean up the groundwater itself. The site is a good candidate for monitored natural attenuation with enhanced bio-remediation due to the stable nature of the contaminant plume. A pilot project to assess the feasibility of enhanced bio-remediation at this site began in early 2003. If you have any questions, please contact project manager Ray Murray at (520) 791-5414.
