This $200,000 grant will provide job training as environmental technicians to 40 students over two years. The City of Tucson’s (City) partners on this project are Pima County Community College (PCC) and the Southern Arizona Environmental Management Society (SAEMS). Students will be recruited from the City’s Empowerment Zone and the Westside Coalition Weed and Seed areas. Prospective students must have earned a high school diploma or equivalent prior to beginning the program. These students will be evaluated for basic educational skills including literacy and mathematics. Students who do not have the requisite mathematics and literacy skills will be advised to take supplementary classes. The Job Training Program will include 108 hours per training cycle consisting of both classroom instruction and hands-on field training. Classroom instruction will be conducted at Pima Community College and field training will take place at City Brownfields sites.
