Inspections Unit
The Inspections Unit provides many fire prevention services to the citizens of Tucson. These services include:
- conducting fire prevention inspections:
- general and hazardous occupancy businesses
- health care facilities
- high-rise buildings
- construction sites
- businesses related to or dealing with hazardous materials
- facilities owned or operated by the City of Tucson
- conducting Certificate of Occupancy inspections for new and existing businesses
- investigating fire safety complaints
- investigating hazardous material complaints
- conducting fire safety demonstrations and/or lectures
- providing fire safety code compliance for special events:
- providing fire safety code consultation and compliance as requested by various governmental agencies, members of private industry and members of the film industry
- respond to hazardous material emergency scenes
- fireworks and pyrotechnics permitting, site investigation, and regulation
- liaison with Pima County and Arizona Department of Environmental Quality
- evaluate requests for variances to the Tucson Fire Code
- review the International Fire Code for proposed local amendments
- provide in-house fire code training and technical support to Fire Department personnel
- partner with other city departments for the Department of Neighborhood Resources
The Underground / Aboveground Storage Tank Unit provides many fire prevention services to the citizens of Tucson. These services include:
- maintaining a computer database of underground/aboveground storage tanks
- track periodic tank and annual leak detection system testing
- conduct site inspections for the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality for compliance with federal and state regulations
- enforce the International Fire Code for tanks at businesses and city facilities
- Pima County and Arizona Department of Environmental Quality liaison for environmental issues
- liaison with the Arizona Division of Emergency Management involving City of Tucson environmental issues
- regulate contractors for underground storage tank removals, installations, or upgrades
- regulate contractors for aboveground storage tank installations or upgrades
- permit issuance, regulation, and plans review
- free consultation information source for city personnel, citizens, contractors, and businesses
