Fire Systems Engineering Unit
The Fire Systems Engineering Unit provides many fire prevention services to the citizens of Tucson. These services include:
- review site and building construction plans for fire code compliance
- inspect building sites to assure fire code compliance
- inspect building sites for the issuance of Certificate of Occupancies
- issue permits for the use of temporary buildings (tents & canopies)
- issue permits for above and below ground flammable liquid storage tank installations
- monitor in and out of service times for fire sprinkler systems
- review tentative and final plats, and development plans for emergency vehicle access and fire hydrant requirements
- review water development plans for compliance with fire flow requirements and fire hydrant location
- track and record yearly inspections of fire protection and detection systems
- consult with property owners, developers, architects, engineers, and contractors on fire code compliance and fire protection requirements
- provide technical input for fire code development
- review fire protection and required fire alarm system plans for compliance with local code and national standards
- conducts flow tests for water supply information
Fire Systems Engineering is located downtown at Fire Headquarters - 265 S. Church Avenue. The plans examiners can also be found at Development Services, Monday through Friday from 0800 a.m. -1100 a.m. hours. The Development Services Center is also located
downtown at 201 N. Stone Avenue (791-5550).
