Present: Donald Ijams, Paige Hamner, Andrew Acuff, Kristi Jenkins, Teri Schultz, Dave Hochede and Cheryl Van De Beuken
Dave Hochede described progress on moving CityScan toward application status on the Intranet. A significant amount of progress has been achieved on the application redesign front, but problems with database stability have slowed total project progress.
Dave Koss in Real Estate has provided the neighborhood association information to be included in the databases. For CityScan purposes, the definition of a "neighborhood" may be too restrictive, since a number of well know areas of the City are not registered neighborhood associations. Also, limitations in releasing Neighborhood Association officer information must be adhered to, particularly phone numbers and addresses.
City I.T. is currently working with City Revenue to get location addresses of business privilege and occupational licensees cleaned up, since only addresses that are valid in the master address database will be shown.
A meeting is scheduled next week with the City Manager and with end-users to see what type of functionality they would like to see.
I.T. has found bugs in ESRI tools and the City Of Tucson is the first to report some of these. It is hopeful that next week the address selection in CityScan will be set. Developers are currently having issues with the spatial analysis due to the "bug" in the ESRI software. The master address file should be updated on a regular basis in the near future.
Master Address Database Project Update
Activities of GIS Intern - The GIS Intern, Marianne Anderson, is assisting Pima County Development Services in cleaning up the master addresses. The City of Tucson is paying the GIS Intern to work with Pima County Development Services to research address questions and to aid in the process of updating data files as appropriate. More than 250 addresses have been added or modified in adcounty with Marianne's assistance.
An extended conversation took place on the address management process. Andrew offered a number of insights into how the process works in Development Services. The relationship between adcounty (managed by DSD) and adparcel (an extract file created from adcounty) was reviewed. The City is basing its master address database on adparcel.
Don gave a PowerPoint presentation reflecting the history of Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA) work toward a GIS Certification program. Don has rejoined the Association within the last couple of years because of its extensive GIS involvement. The members are heavily involved in all aspects of GIS and have recently invested a great deal of time on developing a certification process. You may visit the URISA website for more information on their progress toward GIS Certification.
The next GIS Cooperative meeting is scheduled for 10:00 - 11:30 AM, Friday, September 13, 2002.
