ArcView - Editing Shapefiles and Other Functions - Clark Philips
Clark, with Pima County Transportation/Tech Services/GIS, gave a presentation on ArcView GIS 3.2. He discussed the process of editing shapefiles and the usefulness of snapping. He also described the different functions and features of using ArcView GIS 3.2 for geocoding street addresses. If an address comes back unmatched, then you can go in on one of the ArcView screens to adjust the address to bring about a match.
"Virtual Ride" and the Transporation Van - Casey Townsend
Casey, with City Transportation Department, discussed their "virtual ride" which is a van they acquired in 1998, in cooperation with Pima Association of Government. This vehicle is used as the automatic road analyzer for two primary reason's 1) to collect data for road condition or "ride quality" and 2) to collect data video imagery and right-of-ways. The data is collected every 46 feet and stamped with a GPS coordinate, a photograph taken from the driver's angle and side view, as well as the date of the photo.
This MapGuide application is available on the Internet and it is recommended for use with Internet Explorer. There are currently three employees who collect the data, one full-time and two part-time. Therefore, all video imagery of the street roads is captured on a six-month rotation. You may visit the following website, www.transview.com, for more information on the van.
Orphan Layers - Dave Koss
Dave Koss gave an update on shapefile maintenance and orphan layers. He is working to match certin boundaries to lim_tuc (the City boundary shapefile) and analyzing how best to go about doing this. Dave stated Ron has an AML script that is run in ArcInfo for another project and may be of use for this purpose. For some layers, there are legal guidelines to be followed as to how an annexation will be broken up for the wards and proportioned to the City based on precincts.
Parcel Base Update Process, Streets, Orthophotos, etc. - Steve Whitney
Steve Whitney gave a status update on the modifications to the parcel base. He is currently working on a solution to take PAREGION and write it out to ORACLE. This process is currently in the testing phase and Steve will keep us updated as information becomes available.
Steve also updated on possibly using the City Transportation's digitized streets to replace street segments in the street network (stnetall). Steve has just received the digitized street file from City Transportation and is currently looking it over. Don Ijams explained that he was impressed with the rubber sheeting of the street network now available, and thought the DOT digitized streets might be even better if the segment replacement process can be done.
Ortho Photo Update: Steve stated they have started the rubber sheeting of the parcel base to the ortho photos of 2000. This area encompasses Marana, Oro Valley and areas south of the city. The black wash area is currently being QC by PAG and it is expected to be available by the end of this week. The rest will follow after this is complete.
The original intent for the Orthophotos of 2002 was to have everything delivered by the end of June or July 2003, however, the vendor is running about a month behind. It is unsure of when the first color imagery will arrive.
Other Business: No other business was discussed
