February Meeting Minutes – 2/19/08 3:00 P.M. - 4:30 P.M. Peter Johnson announced that an intern has been hired. She can work up to 30 hrs/wk and will be housed at TDOT. If you have a project/projects appropriate for the intern, please send request to Peter Johnson or Dave Koss.
Dave Koss reported that there is currently $42,000 left in this year’s budget. $21,000 is earmarked to for the PAG Ortho project, to extend the 4” coverage area, $8,000 will go for intern salary through June, and $3,200 will go to maintenance. Approximately $12,000 remain to be expended. Members would like to contract for training in either Python or Model Builder, or possibly a combination of the two. Steve Whitney will investigate costs and report back to the group. Next year’s budget will be the same as this year’s-- $80,420. Dave, Steve and Anna will meet with Gage to discuss budget issues. Bryn has received a quote from ESRI for the City-wide Enterprise license. She will share the specifics with Executive Committee. 2. Training Request Procedure Steve reported that the Executive Committee met to develop policies and criteria for training requests. He reviewed with the group the document he forwarded via e-mail. There were a few minor changes suggested. Steve will incorporate those changes into the documents and distribute to the membership for review. Action will be taken on the policy at next month’s meeting. Anna announced that the Coop will be entertaining requests for assistance to attend ESRI Users Conference (must be a City of Tucson employee). Deadline for requests is March 15. Selection(s) will be made by April 1. Send requests (refer to Tucson Area GIS Cooperative City of Tucson Employee Training Request Form, which was part of Steve’s training request e-mail) to Anna Sanchez at anna.sanchez@tucsonaz.gov Training funds will be distributed as follows: - 25% ESRI International User Conference - 25% SWUG / AGIC Conference - Remainder to be used for software training and annual purchase of the ESRI UC Technical Workshop DVD 4. Co-op Chairs for FY08-09 & Meeting Schedule Volunteers were solicited for next year’s Coop meetings. Thanks to the following folks for volunteering: Steve Whitney, Johanna Kraus, Bryn Enright, Peter Johnson, Jennifer Psillas. Volunteers are still being solicited, please consider volunteering. 5. Announcements Steve announced that the parcel layer has grown approximately 30% due to a processing change. He wondered if anyone was having problems due to its larger size. None have been reported…. Steve announced that they are still in the process of migrating the GIS library from MARS to city/county servers. There will be a single account for read-only access, however, those who need write access will be handled differently. Please let Steve know if you are currently writing to MARS and which layers are involved. AGIC Exective Board meeting report—The only county in the state of Arizona not currently covered by a GIS consortia is Santa Cruz County. It has been suggested that they be invited to join our GIS Coop. FYI: Upcoming Conferences
