The presentation was real-time and interactive, so it cannot be shown as a file (at least not yet)! - Testing will continue on to the next level by September 2005 - Next stage will enlist a third party provider to help COT DSD to expedite plans - Allows submissions to be provided without numerous copies being made - Public launch will be soon - To see what IDT does, go to http://www.contractorsplanroom.com/ 3. Geo-based Delivery Services - Ron Platt - Now called "City Teams" - five areas are tracked - This is a hosted solution - Are we going to do an interface? - Dave Hochede (COT IT) is doing the RFP - We should have the GIS Coop examine the Geo-based delivery service - Friday, 8/26, CRM team has their final meeting on this topic - Thanks for your input, Ron! 4. Subcommittee Reports - Various Members - Budget Subcommittee: - Budget needs to be submitted probably by the end of September - Could GIS Coop use a "travelling intern"? - A "travelling intern" would work, as an example, for three months in one department, three months in the next, etc. so that they could gain a varied breadth of experience. Having a PC, space, and tasks to do was another issue for this position - Executive Subcommittee: - A draft executive structure and mission statement have been created - The Executive Subcommittee hopes to finalize the draft executive structure and mission statement by September 13 so that it can be sent out on the same day to GIS Coop members for perusal. The Executive Subcommittee hopes to get ultimate feedback on the structure and mission statement proposal by the next GIS Coop meeting on September 20th. - Education Subcommittee: - The Education Subcommittee is presently working on a spreadsheet that will identify all GIS/geospatial education opportunities that are available to members of our Coop - The idea of having an "open license" ArcGIS (with 3D analyst and Spatial Analyst) will be a reality soon. COT employees who wish to use the software and extensions will only have to reserve them using Groupwise. Ask Dave Koss in TDOT for details on this "program" (Dave.Koss@tucsonaz.gov) - The Education Subcommittee is working on developing a schedule of GIS/geospatial "classes" that could possibly be taught. A list of "instructors" is being compiled as well. GIS Coop members are being asked to provide their input into this process - A preliminary look at the 2005 Education Subcommittee Education/Training Survey was passed out at the meeting. An online copy is available on the GIS Coop website at: - Recruitment Subcommittee: - The Recruitment Subcommittee has two tables reserved for the GIS Fair on November 15th in Public Works Building basement. Ideas for recruitment materials are encouraged - Thanks to all subcommittee members for your volunteer efforts! 5. Budget - Dave Koss/Larry - The GIS Coop has been approached by COT UPD (Urban Planning and Design) interested in involving the GIS Coop in their efforts. The GIS Coop chair will advise both representatives of these efforts the necessity of presenting these ideas to all GIS Coop members at the next meeting - September 20th. It is important that GIS Coop members are informed as to the intent and structure of these two ideas, and the resources that would need to be employed. Those ideas are as follows: - UPD has approached with an idea to map vacant and underutilized parcels for planning future growth. They are looking at possibly using ArcPad for supporting their efforts - UPD has also approached with an idea to develop a major streets and routes tree inventory. They are looking to use ArcPad with aerial photo backdrops to assist in obtaining such data. They have a couple of other specialty software programs that they would like to use in conjunction with this effort 6. ESRI Representative - Larry - Ali Fain from ESRI - Denver will be in town on Friday, September 2nd. If you have any questions you'd like to ask her, let me know. She will be dropping by my work location at about 11:00 A.M. 7. PAG/Picto Updates - Manny - Dave Koss mentioned that he has worked on 15 projects with Pictometry software to this point in time - Ron Platt mentioned display-oriented information and the application built around it - TFD/TPD are prime customers for this technology - Manny was unable to attend at this time - TFD will have it loaded soon 8. Open Floor - The GIS Coop chair is testing a "program" to help foster closer relationships between the University of Arizona and the GIS Coop. The GIS Coop would invite M.A./M.S./Ph.D students from the University of Arizona with research that directly involves GIS/geospatial topics to talk in front of the GIS Coop about their research. They would be practicing "defending" their theses/dissertations in front of Coop members while discussing their innovations. At the same time, they would be able to intermingle with professionals (GIS Coop members) and find out what professional jobs and tasks make up the work we do If you have questions on this "program" or would like to contribute to it, please contact Larry Cassen at Lawrence.Cassen@tucsonaz.gov - Pictometry powerpoints (from Pictometry) and a Pictometry training manual (from Pima County DOT - Tech Svcs.) are available at the GIS Coop website at: - A couple of organizations have already mentioned that they could use interns for various GIS/geospatial tasks within their departments. If you or your organization has a need for an intern(s), or would like to discuss needs that may require an intern, please contact Larry Cassen - TEP and Marana have signed GIS Portal agreements with COT so far. Pima County and COT are still in the final process of signing - If I have accidentally omitted anything or have erroneously reported something within these meeting minutes, please let me know at and I will correct it given the first possible chance |
