value of various recreation activities" - Peter Johnson - TDOT

    - Peter's presentation will soon be available at: http://www.ci.tucson.az.us/gis/

Many thanks to Peter for his presentation on Valuing Forest-based Recreation

2. GIS Coop Floating ArcINFO/ArcGIS License Setup - Dave Koss and Steve Whitney

    - The purpose of the GIS Coop Floating ArcGIS (ArcINFO) License Setup is threefold:

      - Education tool (especially for those who are looking to buy the software, but want to test the "water" first)

      - Can be used for limited GIS projects

      - Encourages development of ArcGIS projects

    - Directions on using this floating license are as follows (only available to COT employees at this time)

      1) Arrange with IT to:

        a. Verify that you computer is capable of running ArcGIS software

        b. Install the software – The software is available through the GIS Co-op education sub-committee. A connection to the license manager will need to be set up by IT.

      2) When you want to use the license, schedule the resource through GroupWise (as

if you were making as appointment). The resource name (the "To:" space) in

      Groupwise is “GIS_Coop_ArcGIS_1”.

      3) Be sure to exit the program when your scheduled time is up so that the next user

      will have an available license.

    - Any questions on this application can be sent directly to Dave Koss at: Dave.Koss@tucsonaz.gov

    - The project itself should be operational within a couple of weeks

Thanks to Dave Koss for his organizational efforts behind this and to Steve Whitney for assisting on the server-based issues!

3. EPlans Portal - Bill Marum

    - Testing is going well

    - Some minor issues are being resolved such as:

      - Added user-friendliness

      - Addition of a checklist to fill in before adding data to the site

      - Testing by an outside agency will begin very soon

    - Any questions on the ePlans Portal should be sent to Bill Marum at:

    Bill.Marum@tucsonaz.gov

Thanks to Bill for his update!

4. COT Infrastructure Inventory - Ron Platt

    - COT has over 150 inventoried objects (infrastructure)

    - Need prioritization of infrastructure data set development

Thanks to Ron for his suggestions!

5. GIS Fair - Larry

    - November 15th is the day of the GIS Fair. The Coop is looking for a couple of volunteers to staff the GIS Coop booth. "Shifts" will probably be two hours, and volunteers will be expected to talk about benefits of joining the GIS Coop to prospective members

    - We've had one person volunteer for the GIS Coop booth at the GIS Fair. Each "shift" will be approximately two hours and we will need about two more volunteers. Please contact Larry if you can volunteer - Lawrence.Cassen@tucsonaz.gov

6. Budget - Larry

    - We've used approximately 4% of our budget so far

    - The GIS Coop welcomes GIS/geospatially-related ideas and projects (including pilot projects) that would provide potential benefit to GIS Coop members, the GIS community, and the public

    - Among some of the ideas that were mentioned at this meeting:

      - Python training

      - Purchase of ESRI Virtual Campus blocks

      - ArcPad and associated equipment

      - Other advanced training as well

    - Dave Koss is presently compiling a list of members who wish to receive ArcGIS I training. Although COT employees are the only GIS Coop members who can have their costs paid by the GIS Coop, we try to get enough COT members to go so that other jurisdictions can send their respective employees (other GIS Coop members) at a substantial discount. Thanks for understanding.

    - Keep sending your comments!

    - Thanks to all you for your comments and Dave for his organizational efforts!

7. Subcommittee Reports - Larry

    - We've had three positive responses on the proposed Executive Committee. The GIS Coop really needs the input of as many members as possible in order to validate what members think will be best for the future leadership of this organization

    - The Executive Subcommittee asks that each GIS Coop member please consider this proposed leadership format carefully and send his or her comments on it to Larry at Lawrence.Cassen@tucsonaz.gov. It is important to know what you want, as the future of the Coop depends on your responses

    - The Executive Committee proposal can be viewed at: http://www.tucsonaz.gov/gis/linked/Coop%20Exec%20Com%20Draft%20Leadership%20Structure_v5_090905.doc

    - Some members have mentioned developing a voting process. This appears to be a very good idea but I would need the nod of as many members as possible in order to make sure that is agreeable

    - This leadership proposal would be a great way to develop leadership skills, especially for those of you with higher aspirations. Think about it!

8. Open Floor

    - TerraServer images can now be provides the user the ability to download imagery hosted by the TerraServer Server into ArcMap using the TerraServer tool available at:

Once the imagery is downloaded to the local drive, it can be used for a variety of applications, industries, or simply as backdrop data in projects or presentations.

    What's new:
    - Access to the new high resolution, natural color imagery.
    - Automatic metadata generation, incl. date of image capture
    - Easier install and easier tool configuration (i.e. adjusting the tool to a proxy server environment)

    - Kimberly Nichols SAIAT has asked me to ask the GIS Coop if what ESRI classes should be scheduled for next fall (Fall 2006). Kim is leaving at the end of this month for Goodwill Industries and Jennifer Sborov will take over for now. (Knichols@saiat.org) Please send your suggestions to Kim, Jennifer, or Larry (I will pass it on to them)

    - We say farewell to Jack Avis and wish him the best of luck in his new home (Austin, TX). Jack has maintained a leadership position in the Tucson-area GIS Community for many years (as well as innovation in the projects he has developed as GIS Manager for the Town of Marana) and will be sorely missed. Best of luck, Jack!

    - Dave Koss mentioned Pictometry and 2005 Orthos are now becoming available

    - The AGIC conference is October26-28 in Prescott. Lots o' good things to see and get involved in… hope to see you there!

    - Kaoru Johansen, our GIS Coop intern, has finished the Emergency Service Response area

boundaries (to an elated COT Comm. Staff), which is ready to be tested by the dispatch

    center(s). Great job, Kaoru!

If I have misstated anyone or have made an error (or errors) in recording the minutes, please notify Larry at: Lawrence.Cassen@tucsonaz.gov, and they will addressed as soon as possible.
