Tucson GIS Co-op Subcommittee Descriptions July 2005 (Updated April 2006) Overall subcommittee mission: Each subcommittee is charged with supporting the GIS Co-op in its goal of benefiting the public good by providing the highest quality resources available to GIS Co-op members and the local GIS community. If you have questions or suggestions for a particular subcommittee, or if you wish to volunteer, please email the contact person for that subcommittee (listed below). Budget Planning Subcommittee: (contact Dave.Koss@tucsonaz.gov) Objectives: Developing budget strategies so that financial resources are utilized fairly and efficiently to meet Co-op objectives. Such strategies include: short-, intermediate-, and long-term financial planning; appropriating funds to achieve those objectives; researching alternative funding sources such as grant opportunities; and developing justifications for current and future budgets. Present members: Dave Koss, COT Department of Transportation Education Subcommittee: (contact Autumn.Figueroa@tucsonaz.gov) Objective: Developing GIS educational opportunities for members to advance their knowledge and professional development. Such opportunities include: developing local training/education curricula; providing financial assistance for professional registration; and providing resources for educational support including mentoring, training facilities, and software. Present members: Autumn Figueroa, COT Urban Planning and Design Melisa Hadinger, COT Water Dave Koss, COT Department of Transportation Executive Subcommittee: (contact Bryn.Enright@tucsonaz.gov) Objective: To develop a new leadership structure for the GIS Co-op. This entails the formation of executive offices, their respective duties, and length of terms. Present members: Bryn Enright, COT Water Steve Whitney, Pima County Department of Transportation (Christine O'Connor, COT Information Technology – advisor) Recruitment Subcommittee: (contact Lawrence.Cassen@tucsonaz.gov) Objective: To recruit additional members from the Tucson-area GIS community and to publicize the Co-op to the GIS community at large. Entails modifying existing recruitment tools such as the Tucson GIS Co-op webpage, and developing new recruitment materials such as informational flyers and letters of introduction. Other activities include researching organizations and resources, and networking with possible future member organizations and individuals.
