Oct. 17, Dedication of Plaque at the Historic Depot Will Honor Arizona Congressman

U.S. Congressman Ed Pastor will be honored in a special ceremony as a plaque commemorating his many achievements will be dedicated on Friday, October 17, at 10:30 a.m. at the Historic Depot, 400 N. Toole Avenue.

Congressman Pastor was instrumental in securing $12.75 million in federal funding for the 2004 restoration of the Historic Depot, which is now home to Amtrak and many downtown businesses.

Distinguished guests include Arizona's U.S. Representative Raśl M. Grijalva and a representative of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords’ Office. Both will join Tucson Mayor Robert Walkup in delivering brief remarks. The plaque will be dedicated in place near the main entrance to the Depot.

Congressman Pastor, who serves on the U.S. House Appropriations Committee, is an important asset to southern Arizona and the state in securing funding for various transportation projects. He is a sponsor of the high-priority appropriations request for the Modern Streetcar in downtown Tucson, which is widely recognized as the lynchpin for downtown job and housing creation. He was also influential in obtaining a $1 million grant for ADOT to study new intercity passenger rail service between Phoenix and Tucson.

“Congressman Pastor has been a powerful and effective advocate for Tucson's highest priorities,” said Mayor Walkup. “We appreciate his work with our delegation and this plaque will be a lasting symbol of our appreciation.”

For more information on the ceremony, contact the City's Office of Intergovernmental Relations at 791-5200.
