Council Offices, University Students Partner To Clean Surrounding
Neighborhoods
City Council Members Karin Uhlich, Ward III, and Nina Trasoff, Ward VI,
are partnering with the University Of Arizona Community Relations
Department to stage a massive volunteer cleanup of sidewalks, streets,
alleys, and selected properties in neighborhoods adjacent to the
university.
Media are invited to join the "Mortar Board Clean Up Crew," organized
by a UA senior honor society. More than 400 people from fraternities,
sororities, and other campus groups are expected to participate,
including volunteers from Pima Community College and University Medical
Center.
Date: Saturday, February 16, 2008
Time: 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Place: Various locations in neighborhoods adjacent to the U of A
"This is such a wonderful opportunity for the university students to
become a part of the surrounding neighborhoods," said Ward VI Council
Member Nina Trasoff. "Projects like this serve two great purposes:
cleaning up the neighborhoods and for neighbors and students to get to
know each other."
"It's been such a pleasure working with the University, students and
our neighbors to have a positive impact in this area," said Ward III
Council Member Karin Uhlich. "I think it's just one of many
partnerships we'll enjoy in the future."
"Mortar Board Clean Up" volunteers will receive free T-shirts and are
invited to attend an "After Party” at the intersection of Helen and
Cherry, which will feature free food, refreshments, and music.
The event is sponsored by the Ward III and Ward VI Council Offices, UA
Office of Community Relations, University Medical Center, Ace Hardware,
Casa Bonita, BIO5 Institute, Chris Eldridge Group, Lowe’s Home
Improvement, El Saguarito, UA Student Rec Center, Coffee XChange, and
Raging Sage Coffee Roasters. |
