October 2009

  • Business Facilities recognized Tucson in its October 2009 cover story as one of its Editors’ Choices for cities that are surviving and thriving during the economic downturn. The article credits Tucson’s strong base in aerospace/defense manufacturing and solar energy as positioning the region for major growth and development in the future. “Editor’s Picks” were based on locations that drew their attention during the previous months for quick adjustment to the dramatically changing economic landscape.

August 2009

  • Business Facilities magazine has named Tucson No. 6 on its list of the top 10 metro areas for aerospace/defense manufacturing. The ranking is primarily based on a comparison of industry sector employment and wages. Also evaluated were major projects and facility expansion/relocation activity for a region in the past 12 months, and the number of major aerospace and defense contractors headquartered in the region.

June 2009

  • Tucson ranked No. 16 on a list of the best places to live and work for young professionals in cities with a population of more than 500,000. The ranking comes from Next Generation Consulting, which uses an index to evaluate a city on assets important to "next gen" workers: earning, learning, vitality, around town, after hours, cost of lifestyle and social capital. Tucson was the only Arizona city to make the list.
  • Charter school Basis Tucson ranks No. 5 and University High School ranks No. 21 on Newsweek's list of the top 100 high schools in the country.
