Featured Project: Hope VI (Housing Opportunities for People Everywhere)

Description
HOPE VI is a five-year initiative to assist in the revitalization of the Santa Rosa Neighborhood. The project includes demolishing Connie Chambers, the 200-unit public housing development, and replacing it with with a 120-unit mixed income development and 130 public housing units being scattered throughout the community. The comprehensive neighborhood rehabilitation project, now finishing its third year of implementation, also includes economic development, a new park, daycare center, and learning center, as well as homeownership opportunities. Initial funding for HOPE VI was in the form of a $14.6 million grant from Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The complete financing for this overall neighborhood revitalization has been generated from 17 different sources totaling more than $50 million.

Partners
Headstart, CODAC, University of Arizona, Pima College, Tucson Unified School District, Santa Rosa Neighborhood Association, Barrio Historico Neighborhood Association, West Ochoa Neighborhood Association, Santa Rosa Merchantís Association, Enterprise Foundation, Housing Development Partners, and the State Department of Commerce. The following city department/offices are also partners for HOPE VI: Parks & Recreation, Library, Information Technology, Transportation, Economic Development, Tucson Water, Police, and Operations.

Impact
When completed, HOPE VI will provide an improved quality of life for residents of the Santa Rosa Neighborhood, including an increased sense of community, better opportunities, and a higher quality of housing.
