- "Economic security through training and education."
- "Provide access to education and training so that all can have a job with a livable wage that provides adequate benefits."
City Department/Office Support for this Goal:
Economic Development – pursing Workforce Development grants for local businesses to provide specialized training, and coordinating with Pima County, school districts, Pima Community College, and the University of Arizona to restructure a county-wide workforce development system
Key Indicators of Progress:
- Percent of hiring from local job pool The percentage of newly hired employees for living wage jobs that are from Tucson reflects the quality of Tucson's workforce and the ability of Tucson residents to secure better paying jobs. This information can be collected through surveys with key Tucson employers.

- Income needed to support basic needs This measure of income looks at the percentage of median family income that it takes to adequately meet basic needs. This is a straightforward measure of the ability of families to support themselves. Economic data can be used to measure this indicator.
Staff has preliminary data and is researching collection and analytical methods.

- Percentage of residents who feel they have adequate job training opportunities This is a direct way to measure how well prepared people believe that they are for a good quality job. This information would be collected through a citizen survey and complement the employers' survey on hiring from the local job pool.

- Level of resources devoted to training To remain competitive in the evolving job market, both young and older people must maintain and upgrade their skills. This indicator will track a sample of total public and private expenditures for training specifically related to improving job skills.
What YOU Can Do
- Participate in training to improve your marketable skills
- Talk to your children and stress the importance of education beyond high school
- Continue to improve your own skills through education and training
