UTILITY INVESTMENT DURING STREETCAR CONSTRUCTION PREPARES DOWNTOWN FOR MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT - With construction of the Modern Streetcar line in Downtown Tucson, the area is now considered "shovel ready" for development. Tucson could see an additional $100 million in new business development across downtown this year and up to $1 billion in the downtown corridor over the next 10 years, said Michael Keith, CEO of the Downtown Tucson Partnership (DTP). When construction on the streetcar project began in 2012, Keith said Tucson Water seized the opportunity to redo its downtown system, and Southwest Gas and Cox Communications used the chance to expand and make improvements in their networks. Century Link and Tucson Electric Power also upgraded their infrastructure in the downtown area. DTP estimates the $200 million American-made streetcar project already has helped generate $800 million in public and private investment along the route, through downtown and the University of Arizona. TFD Captain Barrett Baker says you should clean the lint trap every time you use the appliance, since that is the leading cause of fires in dryers. He says you also want to check inside, underneath and behind the dryer, and inspect your vent pipe at least once a year. Watch "No Bad Days with Barrett" on KGUN.
