2,000 EXPECTED FOR 24th ANNUAL SENIOR OLYMPIC FESTIVAL JAN. 18-27
More than 2,000 seniors are expected to compete in the 24th Annual Senior Olympic Festival, Jan. 18-27, hosted by Tucson Parks and Recreation.
Senior Olympians, 50 years of age and older, will participate in nearly 70 events and competitive activities at more than 30 venues throughout the City of Tucson.
They will compete in various age and gender divisions in athletic events ranging from aerobics to volleyball and non-athletic events ranging from bridge to pinochle.
The Festival promotes health, fitness and an active lifestyle among seniors, and spectator admission to all competitive events, which run each day of the Festival, is free.
Official opening ceremonies, including a Senior Expo and parade of athletes, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 at Reid Park’s DeMeester Outdoor Performance Center, 22nd and Country Club. The first 1,000 attendees will get free hot dogs and be eligible for a $500 cash prize from Tucson Old Pueblo Credit Union.
A Vegas Style dinner/dance for registered participants is scheduled for 6 p.m. Jan. 26 at the Randolph Golf Complex Clubhouse, 600 S. Alvernon Way.
