PARKS AND RECREATION ANNOUNCES YEAR-ROUND POOL CLOSURES

Tucson Parks and Recreation Department announces it will close six of its nine year-round pool locations for the winter season effective Nov. 16 to accommodate reductions to the Department’s Fiscal Year 2009 budget.

Estimated savings to the Department of $374,000 will be realized by the closures.

Pools remaining open for lap swimming and aquatic programs include:

Edith Ball Adaptive Recreation Center (ARC) – 3455 E. Zoo Ct. – 791-5643

Catalina Pool, 2005 N. Dodge Blvd. – 791-4245

Sunnyside Pool, Campbell and Bilby – 791-5167

Sites that will close until April 1, 2009 include: Archer, Clements, El Pueblo, Ft. Lowell, Quincie Douglas and Udall Pools.

The ARC is a City-owned site that uses solar heating and accommodates many therapeutic users at its indoor therapy pool. Catalina and Sunnyside are school district-owned sites operating under an intergovernmental agreement with the City which maintains and operates the pools.

All 27 City of Tucson pools will open for the summer season May 27, 2009.

Please contact the Aquatics Unit at 791-4245 or 791-5352 for more information.
