Long Distance Change of Plea

Long Distange Change of Plea

Long Distance Changes of Plea for Misdemeanor Charges in Tucson City Court
If you are an out-of-state resident or reside more than one hundred miles from the court, or if you have a serious medical condition that would make a court appearance a hardship, you may be eligible to have your charges adjudicated through a long distance change of plea.

To begin this process, call the Tucson City Prosecutor’s Office at (520) 791-4104. Inform the receptionist that you would like to enter into a long distance change of plea. The receptionist will ask you for 1) Your full name, address, and telephone number, and; 2) Your city court docket number and citation/complaint number.

Your charges will be reviewed, and if you qualify, the Prosecutor’s Office will ask the court to set a date and time for a judge to hear your long distance change of plea. If you do not qualify, you will receive a return call or letter explaining what you can do to resolve your charge(s).

Once the date has been set, a packet of forms will be forwarded to your address with instructions explaining how to complete the forms. The forms must be notarized and returned to Tucson City Court prior to the date set for the long distance change of plea hearing.  The instructions will direct you to call the court on the scheduled date to speak directly to a judge and finalize your long distance change of plea. You must make this call and speak to a judge on the set date to complete your plea. Please note that your case will not be closed until ALL fines have been paid.
