Historic Preservation

The story of Downtown’s rich history is told in its historic buildings and sites. Together they convey what early life was like in Tucson, telling us about the people and events that turned the tiny military and religious outpost into a thriving desert community. Río Nuevo is committed to preserving downtown’s history by protecting historically significant buildings and sites and, where possible, incorporating them into new development projects.

A number of historic preservation projects are underway, or about to begin soon, that will protect Downtown’s unique heritage for the education and enjoyment of future generations of residents and visitors.
