Albert Moreno Elias
Native Tucsonan and veteran businessman Albert Moreno Elias received the Mayor’s
Heart of Downtown Award this fall, in honor of his dedication to Tucson and the
Downtown business community. Elias is the owner of Old Pueblo Printers, a full service
print shop at 255 S. Stone Avenue.
The Mayor’s Heart of Downtown Award was established to honor an individual, group,
organization or business that provides exceptional contributions to the improvement
of Downtown Tucson. It is given four times each year by Mayor Bob Walkup.
Old Pueblo Printers has a long history of working with local trade unions, social service
agencies and elected officials and is recognized by the Allied Printing Trades Council,
a network of graphic arts and communications trades workers. The shop serves all of
Tucson, but has developed a particular niche with the Downtown business and
Spanish-speaking communities.
Old Pueblo Printers also has a long and rich family history. The business is located in
a building that has housed Elias and Moreno family members working in the printing
and publishing business since 1915. This commitment to community involvement, customer service, family and
history makes Elias and Old Pueblo Printers a unique part of the Downtown Tucson business scene.
Elias was born in the Armory Park Neighborhood just south of Downtown and still lives there with Viola, his wife
of fifty years. Together they raised three children, Ana, Albert and Richard, and they have five grandchildren.
