IMPORTANT PENSION INFORMATION:

The City's defined benefit pension plan has provided lifetime income to City of Tucson retiree's since 1950, and the program continues to provide monthly income to over 2,700 retirees. All TSRS members participate in paying for the cost of this benefit, by making payroll contributions that provide 40% of the funding; the remaining 60% funding is paid by the Employer. All member contributions are placed in the TSRS trust, but remain the property of each employee member, and are credited with interest at the rate of 6% each year.
** Effective July 1, 2013, the TSRS contribution rate for employees hired after July 1, 2011 will change from 13.976% to 5.06%.
Examples of how the TSRS deduction will affect employee pay:
New rate (beginning with pay periods ending after July 1, 2013): for any hourly employee making $15/hour, for an 80 hour bi-weekly paycheck, would result in the following deduction from pay:
$15.00 X 80 = $1200, $1,200 X 5.06% = $60.72 bi-weekly deduction.
Employees in these classifications earn 104 hours of sick leave and 104 hours of vacation leave annually. Vacation accrual rates increase with seniority. Sick Leave balances are unlimited and Vacation balances have a cap of 288 hours.

The City of Tucson Information Technology Department is seeking a Spatial Database Administrator with good technical and communication skills to join our Geographic Information Systems (GIS) team. This position requires strong administrative experience in ESRI's ArcSDE application and SQL Server (2008 and higher). Some familiarity with Oracle databases version 10x and higher is desirable. Candidates should have strong skills in developing, implementing and maintaining GIS database models, design specifications, and GIS data dictionary documentation, in addition to a thorough understanding of managing a database with the SQL Server Management Console. The ideal candidate will be able to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical GIS users, bridging the gap between the GIS application user needs and the requirements of the database.
Essential duties include:
Monitor and supervise GIS user's access and compliance with standards for data definitions, coding and data entry into GIS databases
Coordinates installation and upgrade of GIS software
Conduct performance tuning of spatial datasets
Provide information, advice and recommendations regarding the use of geospatial data, applications, standards and Geodatabase administration and development
Integrating data from various sources, platforms and formats, including: REST, JSON, GeoRSS, Oracle into SQL Server Geodatabases
Design and implement solutions using ESRI's ArcGIS suite: ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Desktop
Develop and administer automated geoprocessing tasks (e.g. selecting data, buffer, geocoding, etc.)
Provide technical guidance to stakeholders and user representatives in Geodatabase design, support, implementation and management
Assigns user privileges and maintains database security
Works with the Database Administration team to ensure proper backup and recovery of GIS databases
Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, Geographic Information Science, Computer Science or a directly related field
Over three years experience with development and administration of spatial databases
Over three years of experience with data modeling, and experience with querying relational databases such as Oracle, DB2, or SQL Server
Over three years of experience with Python scripting utilizing the ArcPy module
Experience with stored procedures, functions and transaction management in an ArcSDE/SQL Server multi-cluster environment
Knowledge of ESRI geodatabase schema and behavior
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position may be considered.
An ideal candidate will have a strong background in GIS technology and terminology and have advanced-level skills administering spatial data sets in SQL Server 2008 and higher. Some familiarity with Oracle 10x and later databases is desirable
