Household Hazardous Waste

Common electronics, household and automotive products often contain materials that become a hazard to people and our environment when disposed of improperly. Leftover quantities of chemicals should never be poured down the drain, put in the trash, or stored for extended periods of time. Many of these types of items are accepted by the Household Hazardous Waste program. Businesses and community organizations may also provide appropriate disposal options available to the public. Visit the Batteries, Cell Phones, Computers, and Televisions sections for additional disposal options.

Do not place any hazardous chemical products or their containers in recycling receptacles, including oil and any other automotive fluids containers, dried or solidified cans of paint, pesticides, herbicides, pool chemicals and other hazardous product containers. These are not accepted in any recycling bin, Blue Barrel, or Neighborhood Recycling Center. The empty hazardous waste containers may be disposed of in your garbage container. Unused medicines should be placed in your garbage container. Do not place medicines in toilets or drains, as this can affect water treatment plants and contaminate the environment.
