Before his position as Chief of Staff for Council Member Karin Uhlich, Miguel Ortega worked as the director of community relations at Access Tucson for 8 years. He has advocated for free speech via Access Tucson as a staff member and as an independent producer for 18 years. At the national level, he has served on the board for the Alliance for Community Media (ACM), the Western States Region of the ACM, the National Chicano Moratorium Committee and is currently a board member for The Albuquerque Project. Locally, his most recent board service has been for the Tucson Pima Arts Council and the Volunteer Management Association (as president in 2000) and as a member for the Tucson Performing Arts Center Advisory Committee as appointed by Council Member Steve Leal. In 2005 Miguel was recognized as a winner for the Tucson Business Edge's 40 Under 40 Award. Miguel earned a B.F.A. in Theatre Production from the University of Arizona in 1991. He is currently seeking a Masters degree in History at the University of Arizona. Fortunately for Miguel, he met his wife, Maricela Robles, 10 years ago at a Cesar Chavez mural dedication on the south side of Tucson.
