Shoulder paving scheduled this week on Ajo Way west of Tucson

 

The Arizona Department of Transportation will pave the shoulder of an eight-mile segment of eastbound State Route 86 (Ajo Way) on the Tohono O’odham Nation later this week.

Paving operations will begin Wednesday, April 23 approximately six miles west of the junction with State Route 386, which leads to Kitt Peak, and continue eastward each day through Friday, April 25.

CITY TO HOST SUSTAINABLE HISTORIC HOME TOUR

 

The City of Tucson’s Historic Preservation and Sustainability
programs are organizing the Sustainable Historic Home Tour on April 26,
from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This self-guided open house tour will feature
historic homes in Tucson that have been “green retrofitted” to be
more sustainable, while remaining sensitive to their historic
characters.  Participants will travel to locations identified on a map,
where the property owners and volunteers will provide information and
tours.

Veterans can learn about on-the-job opportunities at free April 22 career workshop


Veterans will explore career and job opportunities, search strategies and tools at a free workshop on Tuesday, April 8, at the Kino Veterans’ Workforce Center, 2801 E. Ajo Way.
The workshop begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 11:30 a.m.
Mary Palma, with Pima County Community Services, Employment and Training, will talk about on-the-job opportunities.

Pima County looks to expand employer opportunities for internships this summer

Will your future workforce be skilled and ready when you lose your current employees to retirement?


What are you doing to make sure your future employees are getting the experience and training they need to keep your company competitive and successful?


For decades, Pima County has placed approximately 1,500 youth ranging in age from 14 to 21 in summer employment for 5-7 weeks depending on the availability of the students and the employers’ needs. The young people are paid minimum wage.

Easter Egg Hunt at Boys and Girls Club

The Holmes Tuttle Boys and Girls Club, 2585 East 36th St, will hold an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 19, 10 am.


GOOD FRIDAY PROCESSION AND EASTER SUNDAY SUNRISE SERVICE WILL RESTRICT “A” MOUNTAIN ACCESS APRIL 18 THROUGH APRIL 20

 

This weekend “A” Mountain will host The Good Friday Procession (La
Procession de Viernes Santo) and Easter Sunday Sunrise Services (La Misa
al Amaneser) which will restrict user access to Sentinel Peak Park.

In order to accommodate these events, Sentinel Peak Road will close at
3 p.m. on Friday, April 18, and will reopen for normal hours on
Saturday, April 19 at 8 a.m., for pedestrians and bicyclists, and at 9
a.m. for vehicles.

REID PARK ZOO RECEIVES ASSOCIATION OF ZOOS & AQUARIUM ACCREDITATION AZA PRESIDENT & CEO JIM MADDY TO VISIT REID PARK ZOO

 

Reid Park Zoo is proud to announce that it was recently granted
accreditation by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA). Reid Park
Zoo underwent a thorough review and inspection in January, demonstrating
the Zoo meets or exceeds professional standards for excellence in animal
care, veterinary programs, conservation, education, and safety. In late
March, Reid Park Zoo officials traveled to Memphis, Tennessee for a
hearing by AZA’s independent Accreditation Commission.
