Youth Enrichment and Employment Program Awards

Each Council office has limited funding for Youth Enrichment and Employment Programs. These are youth oriented, neighborhood-based programs selected by the Councilmember Trasoff.

Sonoran Glass Art Academy - Tucson Magnet High School Glass Blowing Art Class . Sixteen students are enrolled per semester. Students learn the art of glass blowing in the hotshop with molten-furnace glass-making and work in the flameshop, using torches to create art out of "hard" glass. SharMoore Children's Productions - Sponsor of "Stories that Soar!" at Robison & John B. Wright Elementary Schools. Children’s stories are brought to life in a variety of artistic mediums and presented to the students.

     

Southern Arizona Network for Down Syndrome sponsorship for the 5th Annual Buddy Walk.

     

Chamber Music PLUS. Sponsorship for 150 students to attend For the Love of Words & Sounds. Click here to view thank you notes from the children who attended that day.

     

Voices - Photography related supplies for the 110º After School Magazine Project. An annual magazine produced by youths between 14 and 20 years old. Youth are mentored in research, interviewing, writing and photography by professional writers and photographers.

     

Handi-Dogs received a grant for the support of a 12-year-old boy with Cerebral Palsy for service dog training classes.

     

International Rescue Committee (IRC) - Building Futures Program: Fall Challenge Course. IRC’s seeks to empower Tucson’s Approximately 200 refugee youths to become self-sufficient, well-adjusted, and successful in their new country of residence. This award paid for the need facilitators for the Challenge courses which places students in safe but difficult situations that they must work together as a group to navigate.

     

New Parents Network - Additional Spanish parenting info on website. NPN’s mission is to help children worldwide by reaching families with parenting information through the creative use of technology.

     

Southern Arizona Association for the Education of Young Children – sponsor for the “Supporting Young Children’s Learning” conference. An all day conference designed to educate early childhood educators and leaders in the field.

     
 

Raices Taller 222 - “Nuevas Visiones” (New Visions) A six-week art exhibition showcasing young emerging artists from Tucson and surrounding areas in Southern Arizona.

     

Tu Nidito Children & Family Services. Ten Scholarships for parents of seriously ill or grieving children to attend the Seasons of Hope Conference and learn skills to assist their child in dealing with their illness and/or grief.
