The BUZZ on BEES
Bees are part of Tucson's environment. Most are non-threatening, but Africanized honey bees pose a threat to residents' personal safety, as well as the safety of their families and pets.
The City of Tucson will respond to reports of bees or high bee activity in City parks and recreation centers, City right-of-ways, and City water meter locations. Below are the telephone numbers to call to report bees at these sites.
• Parks and Recreation: 791-4144
• Right-of-ways: 791-4728 (after hours, call 791-4144)
• Water meters: 791-4133
For bees on private property, whether inhabited or vacant, call City of Tucson Neighborhood Resources, Code Compliance, at 792-CITY (792-2489).
The Tucson Fire Department (TFD) will handle emergency situations within city limits when bees threaten public safety. Please do not call just to remove bee colonies or hives. TFD also offers "Do's and Don'ts on Bee Safety."
(If you live outside the Tucson city limits, check your agreement with your emergency service provider.)
Residents can also take steps to see that bees do not become a problem. Check your property and its structures on a regular basis. Eliminate sources of standing water. (These attract bees and mosquitoes.) Seal any holes in the exterior of your home or building. If you have had bees removed or eradicated, get expert advice on how to prevent them from returning.
Bee removal services are listed in telephone and online directories. City staff cannot recommend a particular business.
