Mosquito season is almost upon us. Residents should be taking steps now to eliminate breeding opportunities that increase chances of contracting West Nile virus.
The City of Tucson, Pima County, and other regional governments and organizations are working together to abate mosquitoes and their habitats. Everyone must do their part to stop mosquitoes from breeding and biting.
If there is mosquito activity in your neighborhood, then a habitat is nearby. Check your property for any standing water. Vacant properties, especially those with pools, are ideal sources for mosquito habitats. Personal protection is very important. Use insect repellents with DEET, Picaridan, or Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus. Repair window, door screens, or any other openings to keep mosquitoes out of your home.

In 2007, two people in Pima County died from West Nile virus. Let's work together to make that "none" in 2008.
