Although Nina covered politics extensively as a reporter at KGUN-TV9 and worked on numerous campaign committees over the years, she never envisioned running for office herself – until last year, when she was a candidate for the Arizona Corporation Commission. Despite being the top vote-getter in five counties, she lost that race. Early in 2005, friends and colleagues convinced her to seek the Ward 6 seat on the City Council. She is honored to have received the overwhelming support of Tucson voters and looks forward to years of service to this community.

Nina is a corporate communications consultant who has extensive experience working with corporations, municipal governments, and nonprofit organizations to meet their marketing, advertising and other communications needs. She came to Tucson in 1976 when she accepted a job as a reporter and news anchor at KGUN-TV9, the ABC affiliate. During that time she wrote and produced dozens of documentaries, special series and investigative reports on topics ranging from the special needs of children to the violence against women. In 1983, she became public relations director and public affairs producer at KGUN, where she won numerous national and local awards for her work both on and off air.

In 1985 she left KGUN to develop and direct the news/communications department at the Arizona Health Sciences Center and served as its spokesperson when it became the focus of national and international attention for being the first to use an artificial heart as a bridge to transplant. Ms. Trasoff’s skills as a linguist enabled her to conduct interviews on that subject in Spanish, French and Russian. She has since acquired conversational Italian skills.

In 1988, Nina began working full time in her own company, handling the internal and external communications needs of a wide range of clients. Nonprofit organizations, major corporations, medical practices, educational enterprises and area jurisdictions are among her many clients past and present. She has also served on dozens of nonprofit boards of directors.

Nina is married to Rodney Jilg. They have two sons, Justin and Victor – both graduates of the University of Arizona. Justin is Director of Corporate Development for a large software company. He is married and lives with his wife, Rebecca, and their two sons, Teddy and Cooper, in Mesa. Victor is Minor League Medical Coordinator with the Detroit Tigers organization. On January 4th, 2008 he married Kristy Novak.
