Karin is a graduate of Michigan State University. Before moving to Tucson she served as a Congressional Aide to U.S. Representative Howard Wolpe (D-MI) and as the statewide Executive Director of the Food Bank Council of Michigan.

Karin served as the Executive Director of Primavera Services (Primavera Foundation) for nine years, an affordable housing/job training and homeless services agency with an annual budget of $2 million and a staff of 50 people.

Karin has served on the Mayor/Council Budget Advisory Committee (1994-1997; Chair 1996), the Mayor/Council Bond Oversight Committee (1997-2003), and the Mayor/Council Blue Ribbon Charter Advisory Committee (2000).

She has served on the Boards of Directors of the Community Food Bank, the Brewster Center, and the North American Alliance for Fair Employment. In 2002 Karin served as an NGO Delegate to the United Nations International Labour Organization in Geneva.

Karin now serves as the Executive Director of the Southwest Center for Economic Integrity, a non-profit research and advocacy organization. The Center engages in research, education and advocacy to strengthen local economies. She has lived with her family (partner Shannon and daughter Brennan) in Ward 3 since 2000 and within the City of Tucson since 1993.
