Traffic Alert - Tucson Boulevard, Sixth Street to 22nd Street

Published on May 22, 2024

On Tuesday, May 28, 2024, Southern Arizona Paving, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM), is scheduled to begin the roadway improvement project on Tucson Boulevard from Sixth Street to 22nd Street, as part of the Tucson Mayor and Council approved 5-Year Collector Street Program.

In mid-June, crews are scheduled to mill (remove) the top layer of asphalt and repave with new asphalt.

During the work, one travel lane in each direction will be maintained as well as access to residential and business driveways.

This work will take place Monday through Friday from about 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The project is scheduled to be completed by the beginning of July 2024.

This project will not include improvements to the Broadway and Tucson Boulevard intersection.

Electronic message boards will be in place ahead of the project to alert motorists of this upcoming work. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.

In June 2022, the Tucson Mayor and Council voted and approved $15 million per year for 5 years to preserve and improve selected collector streets in the City of Tucson. This collector street improvement project was selected by the Independent Oversight and Accountability Commission (IOAC) as part of the 5-Year Collector Street Program, which is funded annually with $11 million from the Highway User Revenue Fund (HURF) and $4 million from the City of Tucson General Fund. Thank you in advance for your cooperation as we work to improve the quality and safety of your city streets.
