Best practices for passive systems include:

  • Infiltration of water within 24 hours
  • Berm height > 4 inches above overflow
  • A basin depth with a minimum of 4 inches 
  • Mulch placed at least 4 inches below overflow spillway elevation
  • Berms 2 to 4 times as wide as they are tall
  • Use of organic mulch for infiltration areas
  • Use of rock mulch for conveyance areas if needed
