Description
This project is the construction of nitrogen (ammonia) feed system for the reclaimed water system. The new Pima County Waste Treatment Plant provides secondary effluent nearly void of nitrogen (2 ppm). The old Roger Road Treatment Plant provided secondary effluent with high nitrogen levels (around 29 ppm). The Roger Road Treatment Plant is in the process of being closed.

Chloramination (water treatment) has been ongoing at the Tucson Water Reclaimed Plant from the start. With any level of nitrogen chloramination is the best means of water treatment (consultant study) to insure safe water for irrigation and other uses. The nitrogen level of 2 ppm is too low for proper chloramination so a nitrogen source (ammonia) must be installed. This project will provide the equipment, building, piping, and controls to provide that ammonia.
