The Ryland landfill is generally located 0.5 mile north of Ajo way between the Santa Cruz River and Interstate 19. This landfill was used for the disposal of municipal solid waste. The landfill is owned and maintained by the City of Tucson. Today the City inspects the landfill annually to correct erosion and other potential issues.

The City completed the 2009 Groundwater and Soil Vapor Monitoring report. As discussed in this report, monitoring of the three groundwater monitoring wells and one deep nested soil vapor monitoring well at the landfill was discontinued. Soil vapor and groundwater monitoring data collected from 2001 -2009 indicated that there were no impacts to the groundwater due to the landfill. The City will reevaluate the landfill conditions annually to determine if soil vapor and groundwater monitoring is necessary. The report is available at the report/attachment section of this website.
The City installed four groundwater and one deep soil vapor monitoring wells and began routine monitoring.
