Environmental Services Operators take Top Honors at Statewide Road-E-O

City of Tucson Environmental Services (ES) Equipment Operators Ruben Rivera and Rene Brockman were awarded 1st and 2nd place in the Side Loader competition at the annual Road-E-O. The statewide Road-E-O was held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 in Scottsdale, Arizona and was sponsored by the Arizona chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA).

Competing operators are required to take a written drivers’ safety exam and navigate their vehicles and equipment through a series of obstacles to perform exercises simulating everyday encounters. The safe operation of heavy equipment is a major focus of the event. In order to compete, operators must be injury and accident free with a clean driving record. Operators from Arizona municipalities and private companies from across the state participated in the event.

ES operators competed against fourteen operators from across the state in the Side Loader event. As first and second place winners, they are entitled to compete against operators from the United States and North America in the SWANA International Road-E-O determines “the best of the best.”
