City of Tucson Tax and License Online Services:

The Taxpayer Assistance Division transitioned to a new business license and tax system on June 20, 2022.  We are now rolling out a new online business license and tax portal.

Taxpayers will be able to:

  • apply online for regular business licenses and special event business licenses (soon!)
  • submit payments on-line using either e-checks or credit and debit cards as payment methods
  • view and download business license certificates and bills for fees and taxes (soon!)

We are working on compiling useful information about and instructions for using the new online portal, which will be provided below as we prepare it.

Access to the Online Portal

The URL for our online portal is  This URL will be printed on the annual license renewal bills that are about to be mailed, and we will be adding links to it on the Taxpayer Assistance webpages on this site.

Q:  What is a "PIDN"?

A:  In several places in the online portal, the term "PIDN" is used to indicate your license number.  If you had a license account prior to June 2022, your PIDN is the same as your previous seven-digit license account number, with a "T" in front.  If you applied for a license in June 2022 or later, you were automatically issued an eight-character PIDN/license number beginning with a "T".  If you have received your license renewal bill (the form with the title "License Fees Billing Form"), your PIDN is to the right of the header "License Number" in the upper right corner of the form.  The four-digit Security Code needed to link a PIDN/license number to a customer account on the online portal is located on the renewal bill, immediately below the License Number.

Q:  What can I pay online through the portal?

A:  Business license fees, liquor license taxes, and any privilege taxes still owed directly to the City for periods prior to 2017.

Q:  Can I apply for a license using the new online portal?

A:  Not yet.  We are still working on this with our vendor.  We do not have an estimate of when this feature will become available, but will definitely post that news here when we have it.  In the meantime, you can email or call the License team (using the contact info above) to learn of options for submitting a license application.

These are a few instruction guides (in PDF format) for working with the new online portal.
