Our department's recent reorganization has allowed us, the Data Analytics team, to expand our section's purview from just spatial analysis and spatial data management to include the analysis and storage of all of the City's variable data and data types. As part of this bold mission, the Data Analytics section now manages a "data warehouse," a massive database to store all (or nearly all) of the City's data from many departments in one place. To help you access, analyze, and visualize this data, we now provide a new dashboard and analytics application called Qlik, which integrates with the data warehouse. This integration supports complex data visualizations and descriptive, prescriptive, and predictive analytics of all the disparate datasets to which you have permissions from around the City. These two powerful and innovative tools—the data warehouse and Qlik—will grant the City a more comprehensive understanding of the data we collect and maintain, helping us make better decisions and tell more engaging stories.
This endeavor affects every department, and it's important to us that you understand and have a voice in how it unfolds. Last week we had the first meeting of the Analytics Working Group, an interdepartmental assembly formed to help envision the City’s analytic potential.
