Tucson's Mayor and Council voted recently to continue free transit fares while it negotiates with potential regional partners to make the free fares permanent.
While the vote definitively extends free fares until the end of this year, the council declared its intention to keep transit ridership free "until there's an affirmative vote to reinstitute those fares."
A City stakeholder group will be created to help develop long-term funding solutions and improve service.
