Tuition Reimbursement Program

Great News!

The City of Tucson has reinstated the Tuition Reimbursement Program effective Friday, July 10, 2020.

The Tuition Reimbursement Program is focused on helping employees upgrade their skills, becoming more efficient in their work and improving the quality of our city services. This program is contingent upon funding availability.

Program Details

  • The program is available to all permanent city employees that have completed their initial probationary employment period.
  • Courses/Degree must be related to employee's current position or other services provided by the City.
  • Reimbursement rates are up to $350/credit hour at the university level and $87/credit hour at the community college level (starting Fall 2020).
  • Reimbursements cover tuition costs only.
  • Reimbursements are capped at $5,250 per calendar year (Jan 1 - Dec 31, per IRS guidelines).
  • Courses must be with an accredited higher education institute (in person or online)
  • Reimbursements are processed on the Thursday before the end of the pay period.

Tuition Reimbursement Process

Thinking about taking a class soon? While the program remains mostly the same, we have updated some steps of the process to better serve our employees.

Before your class starts:

1. Submit your Pre-Approval Form.

FY 21 (for classes that end between July 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021)

FY 22 (for classes that end between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2022)

After your class ends (and within 30 days of end date):

2. Submit your Tuition Reimbursement Request.

3. Send a copy of your grade to Tuition.Reimbursement@tucsonaz.gov
