1095-B & 1095-C

New Tax Forms: 1095-B and 1095-C

As you prepare to complete your 2016 tax returns, you may be wondering about your 2016 1095-B and 1095-C tax forms. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires most Americans to have health insurance coverage. The 1095 forms are intended to help you report your health insurance to the IRS.

1095-B outlines the months when you and your family members were enrolled in medical insurance. Cigna will mail Forms 1095-B to City of Tucson plan participants (employees, retirees and COBRA). If you were enrolled in the HMO plan, or if you changed medical coverage during 2016, you’ll receive more than one 1095-B; together, the forms will document your complete coverage.

1095-C helps employees who worked an average of 30+ hours/week document the months they were offered City of Tucson medical insurance. The City will mail these forms.

All forms will be mailed no later than March 2, 2017. For 2016, the IRS isn’t requiring that you include these forms when filing your taxes. You should keep them, however, in case you’re audited.
