Tucson Department of Transportation Initiates Operation Freeze (Video)

Crews from the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) Streets and Traffic Maintenance Division are initiating Operation Freeze today. The program makes sure bridge decks are free of ice and safe for motorists to use.

During Operation Freeze, TDOT crews spray magnesium chloride on the bridge decks to lower the freezing temperature of water and prevent ice from bonding on a roadway. The treatment lasts for approximately 10 days. When temperatures warrant, 58 city bridge decks are sprayed and monitored throughout the evening and into the early morning to make sure ice doesn't form at the crossings.

Rodeo Parade is This Thursday (Video)

The Tucson Rodeo Parade is presented each year and keeps intact the spirit of the first parade back in 1925. Billed as the longest non-motorized parade in the country, the parade comes to fruition each year through its committee members, community participation, volunteers, and sponsors.

Thursday's parade begins at 9 a.m. on Ajo Way, a half-mile east of Park Avenue. It then proceeds east to Park, then moves south on Park to Irvington Road, west on Irvington to Sixth Avenue, and north on Sixth to the north end of the Tucson Rodeo Grounds.

Watch for traffic detours along the route before, during, and slightly after the parade.
