As the holiday shopping season is about to begin, Tucson Parks and Recreation is offering an alternative to the busy stores. The annual Holiday Arts & Crafts Fair will be held this Saturday and Sunday at Reid Park, 22nd Street and Country Club Road. The free event will be west of the DeMeester Outdoor Performance Center from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. each day.

From jewelry to vehicles, the City of Tucson’s online auction is open for bids. Tucson 12 recently went behind the scenes of the City's Public Surplus auction, discovering a wide variety of items you can grab for a bargain.

Did you know you can play horseshoes at 14 Tucson parks? In fact, Reid Park recently hosted a horseshoe competition. Certain parks even have facilities for bocce ball, sand volleyball, disc golf, racquetball, shuffleboard, walking, and running. Learn more about the amenities by watching the video below.

Local First Arizona is encouraging residents to buy local during the holiday season. Buy Local Month began Saturday, as locally-owned businesses teamed with Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild to launch the campaign at the 30th annual Holiday Artisans Market at the Tucson Museum of Art.

Thanksgiving is this Thursday, and all offices in the City of Tucson will be closed, except for emergency services.
Residential and commercial trash and recycling will not be collected, and The Los Reales Landfill will be closed. Customers with regular Thursday or Friday collections will have their trash and recycling service delayed by one day.

The carousel at Reid Park Zoo features hand-carved endangered species from around the world. The American-made carousel features 30 animal species, including an elephant, a lemur, a dolphin, and even a giant anteater. The carousel is topped by a safari-themed thatched roof.
The carousel costs $3 per rider, with proceeds going toward improving the Zoo.

Tucson Water offers free toilets to qualifying low-to-moderate-income households. The rebate program offers free replacement of older toilets that consume 3.5 or more gallons per flush. Toilets qualifying for replacement typically are manufactured before 1991. The date of manufacture is generally stamped inside the tank or lid of the toilet.

The City of Tucson will open its court building on Saturday, Dec. 5, giving people a weekend day to clear up outstanding warrants. There will be two courtrooms available at Tucson City Court, 103 East Alameda, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Individuals with warrants may come to the court starting at 8 a.m. on a walk-in basis and see a judge regarding their warrant. The goal of Warrant Day is to resolve the warrant and possibly close cases in warrant status.

The El Tour Bicycle, Fitness & Health Expo is underway at this hour and continues until 9 p.m. at the Tucson Convention Center (TCC). The free event leads up to tomorrow's big cycling race. The Expo is a trade show with cycling and health-related vendors and exhibitors. In addition, cyclists are picking up their rider packets, timing devices and other items. The event is open to the public.

Game tickets are now available through Ticketmaster for the inaugural NOVA® Home Loans Arizona Bowl, Dec. 29 at 5:30 p.m. at Arizona Stadium. Projected to bring $25 million to Tucson, the bowl game will feature teams from the Mountain West Conference (MWC) and Conference USA (CUSA). The Sun Belt Conference will provide a team if the MWC or CUSA can't fill the game.

Visit Reid Park Zoo the next two weekends for Nature Play Sundays. From 10 a.m.-1 p.m. each Sunday in November, the Zoo will have a play area set up near the Conservation Learning Center for kids to dig, build, splash, and more. Sand pits, water tables, building blocks, and tools will be provided. Activities are free with regular Zoo admission, and no registration is required. If you’re not familiar with the location of the Conservation Learning Center, ask for a map when you arrive.
