Tucson City Court last night, June 4, began Night Court sessions. Each evening, Monday through Thursday, there will be two or three court sessions that will run as late as 8 p.m. While no end date for this program has been determined, it is expected to be a temporary measure to maintain social distancing while reducing the backlog of cases.
Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America is hosting its Wear Orange event online tomorrow, June 6, from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The speakers will talk about important issues, including gun-control related topics.

Sun Tran has released a new mobile app to make riding and trip planning easier for passengers. The Sun Tran app features real-time bus and streetcar tracking, trip planning, interactive mapping, alerts, and detour notifications. Riders can locate the nearest bus/streetcar stop, find the current vehicle location, see if it's on time, and check how full a vehicle is before going to their stop.
I’ve read up on George Floyd. He’s about my age and sounds like a person I would have liked to have known growing up. He was from Houston and was a standout football player in high school. He played in Texas’s state high school championship in 1992. Remember how big of a deal high school football is in Texas. That championship was played at the Astrodome.
He was 6’ 6” and called a “gentle giant” and had the nickname “Big Floyd.” His high school friend Donnell Cooper said “He had a quiet personality but a beautiful spirit.”
Tucson City Court began a phased reopening, with restrictions, on Monday, June 1. Reopening protocols set by the Arizona Supreme Court require staff and visitors to receive a temperature scan before entering the building, wear a mask or face covering, and socially distance to the extent possible.
There is limited court access. The public should also arrive 30 minutes prior to their scheduled hearing times to accommodate the new safety and screening practices.

The monthly Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection event scheduled for Saturday, June 6, has been canceled to help stop the spread of COVID-19. The City of Tucson has halted all HHW collection until further notice at the main site at 2440 W. Sweetwater Drive, the Los Reales Landfill site at 5300 E. Los Reales Road, and the monthly collection event at 7575 E. Speedway Blvd.

As many COVID-19 restrictions are slowly being phased out, the weeklong event is an opportunity for City employees and the entire community to go outside their homes to work together to improve the visual appearance of Tucson as we move toward reopening.
