The Mayor and Tucson City Council tomorrow night will hold a public hearing prior to deciding whether to amend the Major Streets and Routes Plan (MS&R Plan) to include the Baseline Alignment Concept for the Broadway: Euclid to Country Club Improvement Project. The Baseline Alignment Concept unanimously was approved by the Mayor and Council last June.

Real estate brokers say 2016 should be a busy year for commercial development. That's because deals were reached last year on nearly 1 million square feet of space for stores larger than 10,000 square feet.
The largest building under construction is the 100,000-square-foot Fry’s Food & Drug store on West Valencia Road near Midvale Park Road, according to data from the 2015 year-end Big Box Retail Report.

Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and that means all City of Tucson offices will be closed, except for emergency services. Residential and commercial trash and recycling will not be collected on Monday, so all customers will have their collections delayed by one day next week. However, the Los Reales Landfill will be open on Monday.
Sun Tran and Sun Link will operate on a regular weekday schedule on MLK Day.

The northbound and southbound lanes on Sixth Avenue between Seventh Street and Sixth Street will close from Monday at 11 p.m. until Tuesday at 6 a.m. to allow Century Link work crews to safely use a crane to install a shoring box at the construction site of the Downtown Links Phase III project.

Singer Janet Jackson will perform at the Tucson Convention Center on May 23 at 8 p.m. Jackson initially was supposed to bring her Unbreakable World Tour to Tucson next Tuesday, but she postponed the tour for undisclosed surgery.

Some residents at Reid Park Zoo got a special treat this week, as snow was trucked down from Mt. Lemmon. The animals enjoyed the rare sight and had a good time destroying snowmen and playing with the white stuff. Tucson 12 captured some of the sights and set them to music. CAMPBELL AVENUE – GLENN STREET TO GRANT ROAD
FOG SEAL
On Saturday, January 16, 2016, crews from the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) Streets and Traffic Maintenance Division will begin fog sealing Campbell Avenue between Glenn Street and Grant Road. Work will take place from 7:30 a.m. to approximately 3:30 p.m. During the work, at least one lane of travel in each direction will be maintained.

The Mayor and Tucson City Council yesterday approved a plan by City Manager Michael Ortega to offer a health insurance incentive for City of Tucson employees eligible to retire. The latest plan offers a varying one-time payout (based on number of dependents) to those who permanently opt out of City-provided insurance. Those who take advantage of the offer can spend the taxable money on insurance premiums for other plans they choose.

The Tucson Association of Realtors Shootout (formerly known as the Ft. Lowell Shootout) runs tomorrow through Sunday at various soccer fields around Tucson. Organizers say the event will have nearly 5,000 soccer players, plus their coaches and families in attendance, contributing up to $5 million to the local economy.
