Operation Splash 2021

Protecting the traveling public on City streets during Tucson’s summer thunderstorm season is the objective of the Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility’s (DTM) Operation Splash campaign. As weather patterns shift to bring moisture into Tucson, crews from DTM’s Streets Maintenance Division will deliver barricades to hundreds of dip crossings throughout the City beginning Monday, June 7, 2021.

The City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM) is seeking community input on two alternative options to improve First Avenue between Grant Road and River Road. Paul's Note - May 28th, 2021

Last week, I gave some reasons why I am skeptical about having the city participate in an extension of the Regional Transportation Authority. One fact I didn’t mention: the fact that many current RTA projects, particularly in the city, may not end up fully funded.

Homecoming 21

On Friday, May 14, Tucson paid tribute to those soldiers from Tucson and Southern Arizona, who paid the ultimate sacrifice in World War I with the Homecoming 21 event held at Gold Star Family Park.

This event was held in conjunction with other similar events across the country through May 23, as part of Homecoming 21, a national ceremony to recognize and honor the last troops, who paid the ultimate sacrifice in World War I and who were brought home to their families by troop ship, the USAT Wheaton into Hoboken, New Jersey, May 23, 1921.

Paul's Note - May 21st, 2021

In 2006, the voters of Pima County passed a law enabling the creation of a Regional Transportation Authority, as well as a half-cent excise (sales) tax to pay for transportation projects. The current RTA expires in 2026, which means it will soon be time for the voters to re-authorize the RTA and the tax. Unless there are significant changes, I am opposed to reauthorization.
