Downtown Links Project Update

Progress continues on the Downtown Links Phase III Improvement Project, extending from Barraza-Aviation Parkway to Church Avenue, that began in August 2020. Below is an 11-month construction progress update. Please note, the schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.

Paul's Note - July 16, 2001

It’s a good week to talk about rainwater and its importance as a potential resource for Tucson. As of this week, 2021’s monsoon total (1.64 inches) has already passed the total for the entire 2020 monsoon season (1.61 inches). Despite the flooded streets and occasional downed tree, we Tucsonans appreciate the relief that monsoon season can give us.

Median Island Palm Tree Trimming

BrightView Landscaping, under contract with the Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM) Streets Maintenance Division, will begin a palm tree trimming maintenance program for the next six weeks on palm trees in City median islands. There will be intermittent, rolling median travel lane closures as the contractor moves through the project areas. Crews will work from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday.

Work dates and trimming locations for the first two sections of roadways are:

Broadway Closure From Martin Avenue To Warren Avenue

On Thursday, July 8, 2021, beginning at about 7 p.m., Broadway from Martin Avenue to Warren Avenue will be closed to all travel. This one-night closure will allow crews to install a new water line on the southside of Broadway that will connect to the new water main on the northside of Broadway. Broadway is scheduled to reopen by 6 a.m. on Friday, July 9, 2021.

Happy Fourth of July

Ward 5 Council Member Richard Fimbres and his staff want to wish everyone and their families a happy and safe Fourth of July. Also a reminder to keep your pets safe from potential Fourth of July activities.

It is important during these times, to be mindful of the heat, careful using fireworks and please don’t drink and drive. If you choose to drink, please designate a driver, call a cab, use Uber or Lyft.

Also, if you are out and its raining, don’t drive through washes or flooded roads. Arizona has its stupid motorist law and it is strictly enforced.
