Downtown Links Constructors (DLC), under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility have begun work on the Downtown Links project.
Motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians should anticipate the following upcoming work:
The September 21, Seventh Street closure between Sixth Avenue and the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) tracks has been postponed until further notice.

While our offices are not currently open to the public, we have been using this time to create a new center for development permits in Tucson. Renovations on the first floor of the Public Works building are nearly complete.

On Wednesday, September 16, 2020, at approximately 6 a.m., northbound and southbound traffic on Euclid Avenue, just north and south of Broadway, will be shifted to the east side of the roadway with one lane in each direction.

Judging by the emails to my office over the last week, the issues on Wednesday’s council agenda that generated the most heat in our community were the extension of GPLET incentives and our declaration of a climate emergency. I’d like to talk a little about another item we discussed that ties into climate change and that touches on the very survival of Tucson as a city in the coming decades: a plan for what to do in a severe drought.

The Ward 5 Council Office will be closed Monday, September 7 in observance of the Labor Day Holiday.
The Ward 5 Council Office will resume operations Tuesday, September 8 at 8 am.
With the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Ward 5 Council Office, along with other City offices, are closed to public access.

In my newsletter two weeks ago, I wrote that Tucson Electric Power spent money to elect candidates to the Corporation Commission, the body that regulates utilities. They did not.

On Thursday, September 3, 2020, City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM) Electric Shop technicians are scheduled to replace the traffic signal control cabinet at the Campbell Avenue and Allen Road intersection. This is emergency work taking place after a motor vehicle crashed into the traffic signal control cabinet.

On Thursday, September 3, 2020, beginning at 2 a.m. crews from the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM) Sign Shop will replace overhead street name signs at the Granada Avenue and Alameda Street intersection. The work is scheduled to be complete by 2 p.m. the same day.
